The days of working your way through college or saving for it are gone. Even public state schools can be expensive.

You make too much money to qualify for financial aid. Your kid just doesn’t have the grades to get financial aid. What if those two statements didn’t have to be true for you. What if your child could still qualify for financial aid regardless of your salary and what kinds of grades they receive.
Well, I don’t have to  tell you that, Crystal Olivarria, the Career Conversationalist will ( In fact, she has a 30 Day Scholarship Challenge where in just 10 minutes a day, you will have a list of possible scholarships your child is qualified for.

Sexual Sovereignty. It should be a basic human right but unfortunately throughout time and even today, it isn't always considered one. You have the right to control your body, your sexuality, your boundaries and to have those boundaries respected. Dr. Saida Desilets, Karyn and Jean had a provocative and real discussion about sexual soverignity and even the "Me Too" movement. This is one show that should not be missed!

Mental health is health. It is not a luxury or a nice to have, it is and should be a necessity. Olivia Bay is launching her own podcast, Mental Health University. She stops by to discuss the importance of mental health and trauma (you can suffer from one or the other or both). We talk about barriers to mental health care as well as the stigma surrounding it.

One of my goals is to be a mouthpiece for mental health care, especially for adults. No matter your age, ethnicity or gender, if you need help, get it.

Last year, co-host Jean Day contributed to the book, Live in Gratitude Daily. Denise Thompson had the vision that turned the book idea a reality.

According to Denise it starts with appreciating what one has. Too many times, our thoughts turn to what we don’t have and what we don’t want, but those thoughts guarantee things will stay the same. Real change, according to Denise and Jean, begins when you begin appreciating what you do have. This creates and makes room for more.

According to Irene Weinberg, love is more than a feeling, it is an action. It is also a power that can transcend death.

Irene, Jean and I had a frank discussion of what love is and what it isn’t. The love she shared with her husband Saul, was real, deep and true. When they were involved in a car accident, Irene made it but Saul did not. But that wasn’t the end of their love or their communication.

Irene Weinberg has an amazing story that I am sure you’ll want to hear, … so listen!

If you believe the oft-cited statistic, then you know that 50% of marriages don’t end in divorce! And all of those couples aren’t living lives of quiet desperation. Some of them, dare I say it, are happy in their union. Well, today’s guest and fellow podcaster Alisa DiLorenzo is one half of one such couple.  She, along with her husband of 21 years Tony, co-host the One Extraordinary Marriage podcast.

She shares with Jean and I how her marriage survived loss, grief, addiction and financial hardships. She also shares how an audacious sex challenge helped turn her marriage around. Is everyday rosy? Of course not, but these two have found what works for them and have grown into one extraordinary marriage.

Stay tuned to see how a 7-day sex challenge can help your relationship.

What is the story you are telling yourself about yourself? When you think back over your life, are you the victim or the victor, the star or a bit player, the heroine or the villain? How you view yourself makes all of the difference. So it stands to reason that if you change your story, you can change your situation.

As the author of The Ever-Loving Essence of You, Jamie Lerner knows a thing or two about changing your story. And, it starts and begins with you. No blaming, no regret, just you.

You know what they say happens when you assume don’t you? You make an a** out of you and me. But according to guest and life coach Paula Shoup and, we’ll, life in general, you make a bigger a** out of yourself. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

According to Paula, by addressing the assumptions you’ve taken for granted and questioning the beliefs you’ve held, you can begin to change your perspective and see things differently. Once you have managed to do that you can rewrite the story you tell yourself.

We talk about the power of the story and how a desire to have an explanation can drive us to create stories that aren’t even true. We also discuss assumptions and beliefs. What is the difference and how they affect our stories and shape our experiences.

October means Halloween for most. And of course, Halloween is all about things that scare us and go bump in the night. Yet, the tenth month of the year is also about breast cancer awareness – something that affects one in every eight U.S. women.

Christine Handy was diagnosed several years ago with Stage 2 breast cancer. Following an aggressive course of chemotherapy and a mastectomy, she beat the disease. She not only survived it, she thrived thanks to the unwavering support of several good girlfriends.

She provides a fictional account of her story in her book Walk Besides Me. Christine, Jean and I had a great discussion regarding confronting a devastating disease head-on and the power of friendship.

I am recovering from my birthday vacation week. Jean is also enjoying some time off, so while we ease back into our routine, I’m pulling an oldie but goodie from the Fun. Feisty. Fabulous! vault. We’ll be back next week with a fresh Fun. Feisty. Fabulous! episode.

The theme for tonight’s episode is Do You, Boo! or Do You! if you aren’t a fan of that particular term of endearment. Basically, as we get older, we often become surer of ourselves, what we want, what we’ll tolerate and what we need to fully express ourselves. Yet, we often doubt ourselves, and even up letting other people influence and cajole us into their way – leading to frustration and discouragement.

To do you, you don’t have to get upset, defend yourself or second-guess your choices. You just have to find what works for you and do it. Let judgements go and embrace your choices and the choices of others (even if they aren’t yours) with tact and class.

Whether it is your choice of a mate, career direction or just everyday personal choices, you don’t need anyone’s permission to live your life your way.

This show is being uploaded two days before my favorite day of the year … my own personal holiday and a cause for celebration. Yes, it is my Birthday. September 21a date that will live on and on thanks to Earth Wind and Fire’s classic, September (listen to the first show).

Join Jean and I and my bestie Tawanna as we discuss birthdays, how we celebrate, why some people don’t and why aging gets such a bad rap. After all, if we’re lucky, we all will get older and there are benefits to it.

Listen and stop by the website to read the birthday blog:

Long gone are the days of my father, when you could work your way thorough school. I don’t even think it is possible to prepare for college like my parents prepared for me, with a growing college savings account that started when I was an infant.

Kids are graduating today and putting off home ownership and marriage because they can’t afford anything besides paying off a Herculean college loan debt. Is it possible to pay for a college education without stressing out parents and starting a college graduate with a mountain-sized debt load?

Beverly Horton may have some answers. Her oldest is currently in graduate school and her youngest is starting her second year with a 50% athletic scholarship and a 50% academic scholarship.

Not everyone can do what Bev did, but she may have some ideas that might help you right where you are right now.

Jean and I have a frank discussion about how tolerance and acceptance have too often been replaced by intolerance, disapproval and rejection. We discuss our experiences by tackling two big subjects, religion and politics.

As a Buddhist, Jean has heard all too often, that she is on the wrong path or is going to hell. She is not proselytizing or trying to beat people over the head with her views, yet people continually offer their opinion on her choices.

Even though I need to lose weight, I have to do it my way. Well meaning family and friends aren’t helping me by trying to shove their (successful) weight loss efforts down my throat. I need to do it my way and that should be okay.

If you listen to the podcast to the end, you will know that I am all about sparkle and shine. So when I learned that the name of Sherri Nickol’s website was Unleash Your Sparkle, I know, I mean, I just knew I had to have her as a guest. Everyone sparkles and shines, it’s just that sometimes we get lost and or sparkle dulls and the shine ceases.

Listen to Sherri, Jean and I talk about reigniting your shine. It starts with loving yourself but there is more, so much more.

Did you know that women over 40 don’t want sex? And that no one wants sex with a 40+ woman? Did you know that once women cross the over 40 threshold move from sexy to frumpy? According to conventional wisdom, these statements are true.
Yet, if you balked or downright laughed out loud then you know the truth. These are myths; over exaggerations and old wives’ tales masquerading as the truth. • Does perimenopause or menopause kill your sex drive?
  • Do 40+ woman stop wanting sex?
  • Is dating impossible as you get older?
Listen and find out!
